Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the difference between a vocal coaching and a voice lesson?
This usually depends on the kind of music you sing, but in my studio, I use the terms interchangeably. What we do and accomplish in each session is based on your individual goals. Some singers really enjoy learning about their voices from an anatomical perspective so we might spend time talking about how sounds are created and discuss techniques that can be used to change or improve these sounds. Other singers might be more interested in developing their artistry, in which case we would focus on things like stylized singing, song selection, and performance.

  • What happens in an introductory coaching?
Your first coaching is an opportunity for us to meet and talk about your vocal aspirations. I’ll ask about your previous experience with singing as well as what you hope to achieve with regular coachings. After the initial consultation, I will ask you to sing something for me. Some singers prefer to start with vocal exercises while others prefer to sing a selection from a song of their choosing. Hearing you in our first session allows me to assess qualities like your vocal range and style, and to determine whether or not your vocal production aligns with your goals as a singer.

  • How often do I need coachings?
The answer to this question really depends on your vocal goals and your current schedule. Some singers choose to coach every week, while others prefer to coach once or twice a month. It’s important for singers to choose a coaching frequency that not only suits their voices but also their lifestyles. The time you invest in your vocal development outside of coaching is just as important as the work we do together.

  • What makes your studio different?
With so many talented musicians in the world, it’s easy for singers to feel overwhelmed by the pressure and need to stand out from the crowd. This is why I believe in building up artists, not just singers. I empower singers to learn and understand how their voices work so that they can perform and sing with confidence, knowing that the choices and the sounds they make truly represent who they are as artists.
